Origin
Shkreli posted on X that he was "officially on the Pumpfun app" and was streaming his trading, sharing a profit-and-loss card showing a gain of approximately $218,000 over the previous seven days. The post attracted close to 500,000 views within hours.
Shkreli did not launch the token himself. A separate participant created it in his name shortly after the announcement, and attention transferred to it because of the visibility of the original post.
Market activity
The token moved vertically on launch, reaching an all-time high of approximately $3.06 million on very high early volume. The price then declined steadily through the following hours, trading down towards the $245,000 level as early buyers distributed.
Why it matters
The entry demonstrates how a well-known public figure joining a trading platform can generate a market without any involvement from that figure. The token had no product or official association; its valuation was based entirely on the recognisability of the name and the timing of the announcement.
